- What initially got you into recruitment?
My first interest came at a careers fair at University. I had the opportunity to meet several clients within the sporting, marketing, and management industries, whilst there was also a client there from a recruitment company. Upon meeting the clients, I felt that the recruitment company sold the industry to me a lot more than the companies from a similar field to my degree. The reason being, was that their energy and clear enthusiasm for their roles came across particularly well compared with the other opportunities.
I have to say that, as well as this… It’s about who you know. My girlfriend is friends with John’s daughter and knew the family very well… She got me an interview and the rest is history!
2. What are your favourite things about working at Talentskowt?
Working in recruitment is a bit of a rollercoaster, but the highs will always outweigh the lows. As well as the emotional rollercoaster, I love working at FJ/Talentskowt, because of the fast-paced environment. I’m not very good when it comes to having nothing to do and want to stay busy, this suits me perfectly. I’ve got to also mention the people. Alongside working with some amazing candidates and clients, who I would now call friends… My colleagues have been super! I still stay in touch with old colleagues and love to go out with everybody on a Friday night, often celebrating the end of successful weeks. Unfortunately, we can’t do this now, but the team and FJ quizzes have been helpful in keeping up with team and company morale!
- What goals do you have for the next 5 years?
Very Cliché, but to buy a house! The only good thing about lockdown is that I have been able to save some money for what feels like the first time of my life.
In regards to work, it’s been fantastic to watch the development of TS since I started 18 months ago. Giving my new position as Head of Sales, I cannot wait to see what the future holds. I plan to be leading a high-performing, fun, and ambitious team for the foreseeable and grow this team to be one of the top recruitment companies in the graduate and entry-level sales market.
On a personal note, I want to spend a couple of weeks in Australia with my brother who has lived there for the past 8/9 years. I was supposed to go last year but unfortunately, these plans were cancelled due to the pandemic. This is something I would love to do on a personal note and hope we can all go as a family, as planned last year.
- What do you recommend to someone who is just starting up in recruitment?
Work hard and listen to what colleagues and managers are telling you. Starting off in recruitment can be pretty tough and a lot to take in. You need to make sure you give your all to everything and listen to the experienced colleagues around you. Work hard, work smart and you will get the rewards. Even now, I am constantly learning and listen to the experience of my CEO, MD and colleagues – every bit of information you can take in will be valuable. But most of all, you need to enjoy yourself. You will be better at the job, when working with a smile on your face than you will be if not. A positive mindset in this industry can make you actually enjoy going to work!
- Describe your perfect, non-work day.
If I could sum up my perfect day, it would be spent in the sun going from beer garden to beer garden, eating good food, and surprisingly drinking lot of beer with friends (hopefully someday soon I can experience this again). I might feel slightly fragile the next day, so spending the day in bed with takeaways would be the perfect scenario and make the hangover disappear!
